Description
Participants get to glaze either a pot they made themselves during the making session which has been dried and bisque fired, or they can purchase on the day a pot premade by me and bisqued. There will be several already made up raku glazes to choose from. I will guide you through some glaze application techniques. Once glazed its time to get the gas raku kiln fired up and you can watch as I take the kiln up to around 1000c in an hour. Then the most exciting part as I remove the pieces from the red hot kiln with big tongs and place them into combustible material in a metal bin where it catches on fire! The lid gets placed onto the bin and we give them a little time for the reduction (reduction of oxygen rich environment) to take place before they are removed and scrubbed clean in some soapy water revealing their full beauty.
PLEASE NOTE THESE SESSIONS CAN BE WEATHER DEPENDENT. IF ITS RAINING TOO MUCH OR TOO WINDY WE WOULD POSTPONE TO THE NEXT AVAILABLE DATE.
